The environment at SCPS

A positive classroom environment helps improve attention, reduce anxiety, and supports emotional and behavioural regulation of pupils. Classrooms  at Spring Cottage provide powerful points of reference for all children to aid their learning.

Much time and effort at Spring Cottage is placed on ensuring our environments support a positive learning culture which in turn supports our pupils in their motivation and their learning outcomes. We also believe our classrooms should support the teacher to work efficiently providing a toolkit for learning and consistency between classes and year groups.  Our classrooms provide powerful points of reference for all children to aid their learning. 

In designing our classrooms we have also researched and been mindful to the needs of our pupils. Visually rich, colourful and dense displays can have a negative effect for some children with SEND. Also, displays need to be colour-blind friendly so that children who are colour-deficient are not hindered in their learning.

On every display teachers model our high-expectations, either through modelling our handwriting expectations or through creative and thoughtful ways of challenging thinking. 

Pupil work is also prominent around our corridors and classrooms. Often this is displayed as part of a progress journey to demonstrate clearly to our pupils the rapid progress they are making.
