SEND
The local offer provides information for children and young people with special educational needs (SEND) and their parents or carers in a single place.
What is a local offer?
The local offer provides information on what services children, young people and their families can expect from a range of local agencies, including education, health and social care.
Knowing what is out there gives you more choice and therefore more control over what support is right for your child.
The local offer provides information on a number of things, including:
- Special educational provision;
- Health provision;
- Social care provision;
- Other educational provision;
- Training provision;
- Travel arrangements for children and young people to schools, colleges and early years education;
- Preparing for adulthood, including housing, employment and leisure opportunities.
Help is on hand
Any child may at some point in their life require extra help and support and at Spring Cottage we include all children and make sure they access a curriculum suited to their needs.
Children needing intervention are identified at the earliest possible opportunity and individual programmes are established after consultation with parents, pupils, class teachers, the Special Needs Co-ordinator, and any relevant agencies including the Psychological Service.
Children are supported in their classroom, in small groups and in 1 to 1 programmes such as Fresh Start phonics, Fast track phonics and Words First.
SEND Coffee mornings
At Spring Cottage, we hold termly coffee morning for parents of children identified as having SEND.
These are friendly and informal sessions and cover a variety of subjects. It is an opportunity to meet with the school SENDCo, SEND Parent Link and SEND Governor, as well as various different agencies who work with our school to offer the best possible provision for all children.
Recent meetings have been about the changes to the SEND Code of Practice, Speech and Language interventions, SENDIASS and the support that IPASS offer our school. It is a great chance to come along and meet with other parents, share experiences and ideas, as well as asking questions and learning from each other.
We are always eager to hear parent/carer views and if you would like to know more information about a particular area of SEND, please do not hesitate to contact the school office or SENDCo with your suggestions.
